The evening of my sister’s horrific car accident, my wonderful boyfriend surprised me by coming all the way to Wichita to see me. We haven’t seen each other since the previous Friday because I spent the entire weekend down in Tulsa, Oklahoma to visit my step dad while he was down there for important work business.
After I ate dinner and said goodbye to my sister and goodnight to my mom, I went to my bedroom to spend some alone time with my boyfriend of two years, Tanner. We were just talking about our day and the subject progressed into a more serious topic. He was lying down on my comfy mattress while I was sitting Indian style next to him.
He was being super sweet telling me how much he cared about me and how he would never want to lose me. He also said with a huge grin on his face that we are going to have an extremely long future together. I just smiled and nodded holding back the emotional tears. As he kept talking and I was listening to him open up, he said “I only have an eye for you, there is no one that is ever going to come in between us, I want to make a promise to stay true to you and I promise I will never hurt you.” He then whipped out this voodoo magic and then all of a sudden I see a small black velvet ring box lying on his chest. He then asked me “will you accept this promise ring from me?” He face turned beat red showing me how nervous and genuine he was about the question. I of coursed responded with a huge head nod and eyes tearing up!
This was a huge step for us because we have been together for two years now and we really needed to take it to the next step if we were serious about each other. I wasn’t exactly ready to move in with each other, but the ring defiantly says a lot about our relationship. He is not the mushy, lovey dovey type of guy; he is more of living in the moment type of guy. For him to give me a promise ring really showed me how much he cared about me. I was so ecstatic that I had to post my new status on facebook to let me friends and family know the surprising news. As soon as I posted my status “I am so happy that my man gave me a promise ring, I love you more than anything Tanner Sparman!” I had multiple notifications that people were commenting on my status. I had a total of 32 people who “liked” my status and approximately 24 comments from people stating how excited they were for me. One girl even said “It’s about time he puts a dang ring on that finger, when am I going to hear wedding bells?” Another close friend of mine said “I know it’s not like an engagement ring or anything, but would it still be okay if I threw you a bachelorette party?” I was laughing at some of the comments made by my friends. Some of tanner’s family members commented on how funny it was that he couldn’t wait until Valentines day!
For the next several days I showed off my new rock on my left hand. People at work were really happy for me because I constantly talk about him to coworkers and to customers telling them how much of a great guy he was. It pretty much summed up what I had to say about my boyfriend when I showed them my ring. This will be a promise I will never forget; it was perfect!
