Once seniors in high school finally escape the prison-like building by graduating with all of their peers, it is now the time they make the decision on whether or not they want to continue their education at a community college or university. The majority of my class chose to go on to college to achieve a degree for their future.
While attending college my freshman year, I quickly noticed I needed to kick it into high gear if I was serious about my future. When I was attending high school, I would have considered myself as a slacker and a huge procrastinator. Transitioning from a young high school student to an adult who is attending college is a huge difference. Since I was a procrastinator in high school, it made it very difficult for me to focus on my studies in college. In high school I hardly ever studied and didn’t put my best efforts into my assignments as I could have. I was an average “B” student in high school and looking back now, I could have been a straight “A” student if I really applied myself in my school work. If I was unsure about something in high school, I was too afraid to ask my teachers questions for help. Becoming a college student, I quickly realized if I don’t ask my professors’ questions then I will never know the answer. My professors’ can’t mentally read my mind. In high school, teachers literally force their students to do homework, whereas college professors could seriously care less if a student fails to apply themselves in homework.
Time management from high school years to the college years is completely different. In high school I had a study period every day at school. I was allowed enough time to easily finish all my assignments during school, and if I don’t then I would always have time to finish my homework assignments at home. During college I rarely have time during class to study and do homework. Most of my study time and homework takes place outside of school. I usually come home every night and study or do homework for at least two hours. On the weekends, I am constantly studying and reading my book for my class. It is extremely hard to manage all the things in my life such as; work, school, homework, studying, reading, boyfriend, friends, and family. On top of all of that I am considering becoming a t95 Rock Squad girl, but in reality I don’t have the time to do so.
Time management is the most important quality to have in college. Students must make time to do their school work. Students who put other festivities before school will become failures and jeopardize their future. Advice I would give to others would be to make sure school becomes the first priority before fun. You can’t have fun knowing your future isn’t developing!
