As I was running around my house trying to find shoes, I stumbled across my knitted boots. Being in such a hurry, I failed to put on any socks in this frigid weather. I quickly grabbed my coat and bolted out the door. As I was about to fly out of my garage in my black Jeep Cherokee, I saw my mom pulling in the driveway. I quickly ran over to her car and said “Laura has been in a car accident and I need to go pick her up, would you want to come with me.” Her eyes massive grew as I told her the shocking news. Her voice cracked and said “Is she okay?” I quickly nodded her head and told her we needed to leave now if she was going to come with me. As we were backing up quickly in the driveway, I said “Mom, you need to call aunt Lisa and tell her we won’t be able to make it to dinner tonight.” My mom memorized her phone number and used my cell phone to quickly call my aunt.
I was trying to arrive to the scene so quickly, but remembered that my sister was obviously not going anywhere and it was very stupid of me to drive fast on this icy road. I called her once again and asked where she was exactly. She said she was on Woodlawn just north of Central. I told her I would be there in about 15 to 20 minutes depending on how traffic was. It was rushhour and everyone was driving home from work.
As we were about to turn onto Woodlawn just off of central the only thing we saw was a mosaic appearance of red, blue, and yellow flashing lights. Just looking at all the emergency vehicles scared us. Both lanes going north on central was blocked off by a police car. Everyone who was driving had to detour around onto a small residential street. There was only one lane for people driving southbound. It was a huge mess with all of the cars having to merge into one lane.
I parked my car onto a side street and quickly ran over to my sister. There were three cop cars surrounding the accident and an ambulance. The ambulance was driving away as we approached my sister’s car. I was scared, thinking to myself, who might have just left in the ambulance. My sister was still in her olive green Jeep Liberty filling out paperwork with eyes full of tears. I hated seeing her upset, it just killed me.
The other girl, who seemed to be in her upper twenties, was in the back seat of a police car filling out paper work. The damage to her car was too extent for her to stay seated in her car. The rest of the story will continue in tomorrow’s blog.
