My day started out as an average Monday. Waking up bright and early, went to work to please all customers, went to my classes to figure out that my English class was canceled. I was a little frustrated because I wasn’t able to check my e-mail to see if any of my classes were canceled. I went to English and found no one there. I sprinted to Ahblah library to see what the ordeal was. Since I was already at Wichita State for my first class and I knew my Anatomy and Physiology professor teacher wouldn’t cancel class, I decided to work on my blog for English class.
After all of my classes ended for the day, I went home to get ready for dinner plans with my sister, mom, aunt, and cousin. We were planning on meeting a Big Cheese Pizza in Andover, Kansas. I was extremely excited because it has been a long time since we have ate there. We were scheduled to meet at Big cheese around 5:30. My sister was supposed to drive over to my parents house so my mom, sister, and I could ride together. As I was getting ready and waiting for my mom and sister to arrive at the house I received a phone call. I looked on the caller-ID and it was my sister. I eaglerly said “hi.” She asked if my mom was home yet, I answered no. She then burst into tears and said she was in a horrific car accident. My heart fell to my stomach. I immediately replied “Laura, oh my god, are you okay? What happened?”
While her voice was shaky she told me that her car hit a patch of black ice, spun around in a complete 360 degrees and slid into the other oncoming lane and hit a car head on. She also said she was fine but that her leg hurt. As she was explaining everything that happened I heard emergency vehicles arriving to the scene. I asked her if she needed me to pick her up, and she said “I don’t know, I am so shook up right now.” I wanted to cry with her because I can’t stand when she is upset. She then politely asked me to call her husband, Angel. I quickly hung up the phone with my sister telling her I loved her and reassured her everything was going to be okay. I called Angel, which is something I rarely do. He quickly answered with discomfort in his voice. “Hello?” “Angel? I just wanted to let you know that Laura was in a wreck, but thankfully she is okay, just don’t freak out, ok?” “Are you serious?” I told him exactly what happened. He was at the fire department at the Air Force base, so he obviously couldn’t have left work to go to the scene of the accident to make sure she was okay.
The phone rang, it was Laura. Still in shock after the wreck, she shakily asked me to pick her up. I immediately told her I was on my way. The story of the accident will continue in tomorrow’s blog.
