Blog # 12: Freewriting

Yesterday as I was patiently waiting outside of the weight room at the heskett center to work out. I noticed this other young man was waiting too just outside the door. We were both anticipating on the weight-lifting class to be dismissed. To avoid the awkwardness of silence I decided to start a friendly conversation with the six foot tall, muscular guy that resembled an ordinary jock or tool. He asked what I was planning on “working out.” That was an odd question to ask but I replied by saying “Not working out too much today because I was sore from exercising yesterday.” He rudely rolled his eyes and probably was thinking to himself “Sore from what, doing crunches or something?” I wasn’t going to be rude in return so I decided to change the subject to something else. I asked what he did today and he replied “The usual of going to class and debating on whether or not if I should try to find a job.” I told hime he should apply at starbucks because we needed more partners. He nodded his head like he might be interested. Shortly after our conversation ended we both went inside to the weight room to do our own workouts. He immediately bee-lined to where the heavy weights were and I went into the other room to stretch my tight hamstring muscles. The smell of the entire weight room was very intense. It had an odor of sweaty old wrestling mats. I always shower after I use the weight room.
